Jedi Starfighter When obi-wan kenobi departs on his quest to Kamino, he requisitions one of the Jedi Temple’s modified Delta-7 Aether sprite light interceptors. This ultra-light fighter is well shielded against impacts and blasts, and is equipped with two dual laser cannons that can unleash a withering frontal assault. Its sleek, blade-like form simplifies shield distribution and affords excellent visibility, especially in forward and lateral directions. A fighter of this size normally cannot travel far into deep space on its own, but the customized Jedi version features a socket for a truncated droid navigator and can dock with an external hyperdrive ring. Its design assumes dominance over any foe—essential for a prescient Jedi or any steely-nerved pilot trained for frontal assaults. Stoical Droid Originally an R4-series astromech droid, R4-P17 was crushed while repairing trash compactor faults in the KDY research shipyards over Gyndine. While inspecting the Jedi customizations of the Delta-7 design, Anakin Skywalker found R4’s wreck and rebuilt her with an R2-series dome. Now Temple property, R4 is the prototype for other integrated droid navigators in Jedi Delta-7 ships. This ancient icon dates to the Bendu monks’ study of numerology wherein the number nine (eight spokes joined to one disc) signifies the beneficent presence of the Force in a unitary galaxy. After the fall of the Galactic Republic 1,000 generations later, the Emperor will personalize this symbol by defacing the icon with the removal of two spokes.
